Therapeutic approach
Releasing stuck emotions through the body's energy system.
EFT Tapping is a gentle, evidence-informed technique that combines elements of cognitive therapy with acupressure. By tapping on specific points on the body while focusing on a distressing thought or feeling, you can rapidly reduce emotional intensity.
EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques. It involves gently tapping on specific acupressure points on the face and upper body while simultaneously focusing on a difficult emotion, memory, or belief. It was developed by Gary Craig and draws from both traditional Chinese medicine and modern psychology.
Tapping on meridian points sends calming signals to the amygdala — the brain's alarm centre — while simultaneously holding a distressing thought in mind. This 'paired stimulation' appears to disrupt the stress response and allow the nervous system to regulate. Many people experience rapid, lasting relief.
EFT is effective for anxiety, phobias, trauma, PTSD, cravings, chronic pain, performance anxiety, grief, and deeply held negative beliefs. It can be used as a standalone technique or integrated into broader therapeutic work.
Your therapist will guide you through identifying a specific issue and rating its intensity. You'll then tap through a sequence of points while speaking aloud. Sessions are gentle, often surprising, and many clients notice significant shifts within a single session.
