Therapeutic approach
The breath is a bridge between the conscious and unconscious mind.
Breathwork encompasses a range of conscious breathing techniques used to support emotional release, nervous system regulation, and expanded self-awareness. It is a powerful complement to talk therapy.
Breathwork refers to intentional breathing practices used therapeutically. In our sessions, breathwork may range from simple diaphragmatic breathing for nervous system regulation, to deeper connected breathing practices that can access and release held emotional states.
Conscious breathing directly influences the autonomic nervous system, shifting the body out of fight-or-flight and into a state of rest and recovery. Deeper breathwork practices can also alter states of consciousness, allowing access to emotions and experiences that may not be reachable through ordinary awareness.
Breathwork supports anxiety, stress, emotional numbness, trauma, grief, and a general sense of feeling 'stuck'. It is also used for personal growth, creativity, and deepening spiritual connection. It can produce profound shifts in a relatively short time.
Breathwork may be offered as a short practice within a therapy session, or as a longer dedicated session. Your therapist will guide you carefully, monitor your experience, and support you through whatever arises. Integration — making meaning of the experience — is an important part of the process.
